A Designer or Bespoke Ring - What is the difference?

When you buy a ring from Heirloom, it will already be something personal to you because of the finishing touches we add to it. However, when you are considering a piece of jewellery through us, there are two routes which will influence flexibility of design, and ultimately the cost of the piece.  You can choose between designer or bespoke jewellery options.  We discuss both here.

Designer Jewellery
Whatever your needs, there are always jewellery options in existence.  Heirloom source from their own collection of white label pieces, as well as trusted designers known for their originality and craftsmanship.  Each piece of jewellery is made to order – from existing designs.  This means overheads are slightly lower, you are not paying for the time required to create a bespoke piece, or the additional skills or materials which may be required to produce it.
Jewellery designs combines leading edge technology, with hand finished techniques.  It does not come from automated processes, there is a high level of human interaction at every step of the production process.  It will still possess unique characteristics (as every precious stone is different, and finishing touches can be tailored to each client), but the hard work of designing it has already been carried out.
Bespoke Jewellery
If you are looking for something particularly unique, for example; a rare gemstone, or a very specific idea for a design which is highly personal to the wearer, we are likely to recommend the bespoke route.
Bespoke jewellery is a higher value purchase given the time required to create a piece unique to you.  Your designs will be drawn, and a test prototype made to ensure it is right.  We will discuss stone requirements with you, and source to special order.
It is a slightly longer process, for a piece that will be unique to yourselves.  Bespoke jewellery is usually entirely hand made, combining traditional techniques with modern technology.
Which offers the best quality?

There is negligible difference to the quality of designed or bespoke jewellery. We are very strict about the quality of product we will accept. We would not expect any variation regardless of how the piece has been made, and will reject jewellery if does not reach our standards.

Do you have a preference you recommend?

Not particularly. We need to understand your needs first, in relation to styles, materials and budget. Once we are clear on what you are looking for, we can advise you on which route will meet your needs.
